How to Get Dried Dog Pee Out of Carpet

35

Sometimes you may not even notice an accident spot until after it has dried. Or you could move into a new place and discover that the carpet smells of dog pee.

Dry dog pee stains can be more challenging to remove than fresh ones, but there are ways to treat them effectively. These methods will help neutralize the smell and restore your carpet to new.

Vinegar

Every dog owner knows the frustration of coming home from work or running errands to find a pee stain on the carpet. No matter how well-trained your pup is, accidents happen – even if you do your best!

If your pup often leaves puddles or tiny stains on the carpet, vinegar is an efficient solution to get dried urine out and neutralize its odor. Not only does it cost-effectively and environmentally friendly, but it’s also ideal for pets who don’t always adhere to potty schedules.

Mix one cup of distilled white vinegar, one cup of water, and two teaspoons of baking soda in a spray bottle. Apply this solution to the stained area, leave for 10 minutes, then blot with towels. This combination of vinegar and baking soda can lift urine, eliminate odors and help dry carpets quickly.

Dish Soap

If your pup is particularly stubborn and pees a lot on your carpet, it can be difficult to get it clean. Fortunately, there are some simple solutions for removing dried dog pee from carpeting.

The most efficient method is to remove stains with dish soap and water. You can spray bottle or pour the solution directly onto the stain.

Create a solution of two cups of water and one teaspoon of liquid dish soap. Spray this solution onto the affected area and allow it to sit for several minutes.

Once the solution has soaked into the carpet, rinse it with clean water and dab it away with a towel. Repeat this process as necessary until all traces of staining have been eliminated.

For tougher stains, try mixing vinegar and baking soda for a cost-effective yet effective removal method that won’t damage your carpet. This combination works great on both old and new stains alike.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is a widely-used cleaning and deodorizing agent in the home. Not only does it effectively remove tough stains, but it also offers numerous health advantages.

If you need dried dog pee out of the carpet, use vinegar and baking soda. Vinegar acts as an agent that reduces ammonia in urine while breaking down bacteria.

Sprinkle baking soda directly on the stain and press down to work it into carpet fibers. Allow sitting for up to an hour.

Once it has dried, use a paper towel to rub away any visible stains gently. Doing this will absorb any extra liquid from the carpet and any odors caused by pet urine.

If the odor is still persistent, hydrogen peroxide can help. Simply mix hydrogen peroxide and water and apply them to stain with a brush.

Water

Unfortunately, dog pee stains and odors can be challenging to remove from carpets, but several methods exist. Start by locating the affected area.

Next, soak up as much urine as possible with paper towels or wet rags. Doing this will help absorb moisture and prevent it from seeping into your carpet, worsening the stain.

Once you have soaked up as much pee as possible, mix water and dish soap for an effective removal solution that neutralizes odors. This will help remove the stain while simultaneously neutralizing any remaining smells.

You may need to use a hair dryer to dry the area thoroughly. Avoid steam cleaners as their heat can set the stain and permanently attach urine proteins to carpet fibers.
