Directors Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck pack the film with shopping excursions for sex toys and instructional videos, plus an engaging subplot in which Eric (Leslie Bibb) falls for Kelly (his realtor trying to sell their Hamptons house). Unfortunately, without clear stakes to drive each subplot forward, its various elements drift aimlessly around one another.

A Good Old Fashioned Orgy manages to find a balance between vulgarity and sentimentality that few R-rated comedies can match. The film follows Eric and his shallow friends who host parties at his father’s Hamptons beach house, hosting parties that delight his superficial friends as much as his shallow father himself does. When Eric realizes his therapist girlfriend Kelly (Leslie Bibb) is on a date, he decides to investigate group sex as a potential solution to their hang-ups about dating.
This script, co-written by director Alex Gregory and writer Peter Huyck, features plenty of profanity and hearty laughter. Lake Bell, Nick Kroll, Michelle Borth, Rhys Coiro, Tyler Labine, and Lucy Punch all-star; with Bell and Borth’s characters being mainly well developed.
After much deliberation, the group decides to participate in an underground sex club where partygoers wear various fetish gear. Following a lengthy discussion amongst themselves, the members eventually choose to attend this carnal event and eventually battle their sexual inhibitions and discover more about themselves during its course. Starring Jason Sudeikis of Hall Pass and Horrible Bosses fame, this comedy delivers plenty of bawdy humor and nonstop sexualized laughter that keeps viewers laughing through its runtime.

Borth stars as Sue, Eric’s long-term love interest, who reluctantly agrees to an orgy but then resists more explicit activities during it. Mike serves as both roommate and best friend to Eric; both attempt to convince Sue to join their party, but Mike fails miserably.
On the edge of their intimate group are Laura (Leslie Bibb), an asexual psychology student; Adam (Nick Kroll), an avid computer nerd who’s deeply into BlackBerry; and Duquez (Martin Starr), an aspirational hipster musician. Glenn and Kate, a recently wedded couple, are invited but opt out.

Eric (Jason Sudeikis) invites his high school friends for one last get-together at his dad’s house before selling it off. Real estate agent Kelly (Leslie Bibb) charms Eric with her flirtatious ways but soon informs him that her father’s house sale deal has fallen and will take longer. They begin dating before Kelly tells Eric her deal fell through as well and starts telling him about this new home deal she just made – only then do things go south fast with Kelly telling him of her dad’s value falling through and informing him of delayed sale negotiations resulting in her fathers home sale being delayed and longer to sell than expected – creating tension and then an unexpected turn in their relationship before she tells him about this new development involving real estate agent Kelly that comes and then tells him about this new home deal that failed due to this new deal falling through and now needing longer before selling is completed and begins telling him about this new house deal falling through and now needs more time before being sold off sooner rather than expected!
Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck co-wrote and directed A Good Old Fashioned Orgy, adapting it from a true story of an unplanned group orgy at a Hollywood Hills party. Filming took place over 30 days on location in Wilmington, North Carolina, without any sets or large-scale special effects.
The cast and comedy in Family Matters are extraordinary, featuring offbeat yet often inappropriate humor that may offend some audiences. While not suitable for everyone, especially if sex humor offends you, its talented cast, including Leslie Bibb and Jason Sudeikis, makes this movie enjoyable to watch – parents should talk with their teens about its depictions of sex relationships; parents may wish to discuss the PG-13 rating which contains some explicit material (although less graphic than Brave New World).

Eric’s close circle of friends organizes an unforgettable party to commemorate the sale of Eric’s East Hampton summer house: an all-out orgie. Although initially reluctant, over time, everyone warms to the idea; first, however, research must be completed, so they visit a mattress store-sex club (a kinky combination of “Alone in the Dark” and “Brave New World”) to scope out their surroundings and plan their action plan.
After Dody Henderson (Lin Shaye), the club’s prime real estate agent, provides all attendees with orgie etiquette training, they are prepared for an enjoyable Labor Day weekend party. However, as time passes, some unexpected complications arise – Doug and Mike begin dating; Kelly’s blossoming romance with Adam strains her relationship with Glenn; Dody asks Eric to delay closing on the house until after the orgy.

After his father passes, Eric (Jason Sudeikis) informs his friends of an imminent sale of the summer house where they’ve held drunken theme parties since their teenage years. Feeling as if this marks the end of an era, these men reluctantly agree to hold one last celebration — an elaborate party with dancing, drinking, and food!
Lindsay Sloane as the shy school teacher with dreams of music careers shines in this movie; their ability to sell an orgie that could be enjoyable makes the film successful, though its basic premise and results don’t precisely meet Hollywood audiences’ post “Hangover” expectations.
Martin Starr stars as Duquez, an aspirant musician concerned about how his first CD cover will look; Laura LaCarubba stars as Sue, an introverted friend with body issues; Will Forte and Lucy Punch play Glenn and Kate, who already have children but attempt to keep their romance secret from them; while Rhys Coiro appears as Marcus; Alison’s German boyfriend who prefers European football and shaving his vagina; while David Koechner plays Vic George who gives Mike advice at an underground sex club.

Sometimes R-rated comedies about sexuality and long-term friendships can be caught between vulgarity and sentimentality, yet this one manages to strike an excellent balance. Writer-directors Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory have assembled an exceptional ensemble cast, led by Jason Sudeikis as Eric (Tyler Labine), an unemployed thirtysomething hostess hosting elaborate theme parties at his father’s Hamptons beach house for friends he knows at involved theme parties hosted by Eric; Mike (Tyler Labine) decides that Mike hosts one last ultimate Labor Day bash which includes an orgie that mimicking Kama Sutra!
Initial resistance amongst their friends to join is overcome as each one gradually reconsiders participation. Sue (Michelle Borth), who’s long been pining after Eric (Nick Kroll), sees it as an opportunity to pursue romantic feelings; for shy schoolteacher Laura (Lindsay Sloane), facing sexual inhibitions due to body issues; Adam (Nick Kroll), an awkward nerd with his BlackBerry as an umbilical cord; Duquez (Martin Starr) an uptight musician looking for validation from participation before bowing out to finish a song before returning later that night.
Glenn and Kate (Will Forte and Lucy Punch), two newlyweds in their group, are determined to crash the party. Still, once inside, they realize it could be needed to enhance their marriage and relationship.

Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck’s A Good Old Fashioned Orgy is a raunchy comedy that explores friendship, relationships and loves from multiple perspectives. While it contains graphic sexual content and humor without going over the top, A Good Old Fashioned Orgy instead focuses on the comical situations its characters find themselves in. Jason Sudeikis shines as Eric, the party animal who struggles to settle down, while Leslie Bibb makes for an excellent Kelly, his cute real estate agent girlfriend. The ensemble cast is terrific, with Jason Sudeikis shining as Eric while Leslie Bibb makes for her portrayal as Eric’s girlfriend, Kelly!
Lucy Punch and Lindsay Sloane round out the group as critical women – Kate and Laura, respectively. Both actresses possess great comedic timing, keeping up with the boys despite feeling somewhat out of tune when dealing with more sexual scenes.
Filming of this movie took place in Wilmington, North Carolina, beginning with principal photography commencing on May 8, 2008, and concluding over 30 days later. No sets were explicitly built for this production as it took place entirely within real homes and businesses of residents. Although the show had to be postponed several times while producers tried to secure financing, it was well worth the wait once production finally did begin!
