Nebraska Football Goals and Newcomers
Nebraska football has had a tough couple of years, but the Cornhuskers have a lot to look forward to as they prepare to compete in the Big Ten Conference. In this article, you will learn about the goals of the Cornhuskers for the upcoming season, and how head coach Rhule hopes to bring a new dynamic to the program. Read on to learn more about the newest additions to the Cornhuskers, including Rulon Gardner, Elijah Jeudy and Jordan Burroughs.
Recruiting approach by Rhule
A new recruiter has arrived in the Cornhuskers’ corner, Matt Rhule. The former Carolina Panthers coach has a reputation for evaluating high school prospects. He also has a strong recruiting staff.
In a recent interview with the Jim Rome Show, Rhule talked about his recruitment approach. He said he prefers to work with high school players. Rather than focusing on the top prospects, he likes to find diamonds in the rough.
In the past two years, Rhule’s staff has recruited several players in Texas. Two of those players have been selected in the NFL draft. One is a three-star prospect and another is a four-star.
Goal is to see the postseason again
The Nebraska football team has a long list of goals for the future. In fact, the list goes beyond the usual recruiting blitz and roster construction. It includes the integration of Tony White’s 3-3-5 defense.
There’s plenty of debate on whether this is the best way to accomplish this goal. Nevertheless, there are several key goals that can be achieved to put the Huskers back on the map.
First, they should be able to win big games against nonconference opponents. That includes the Michigan Wolverines and Wisconsin Badgers. Both of these teams have won more than eight nonconference games this season.
Rulon Gardner
Rulon Gardner is a former contestant on the hit television show The Biggest Loser. He has been involved with a number of high and low points in his life, and is now attempting to move on from his fame and gain back some of the goodwill he enjoyed as a star.
Before becoming an athlete, Gardner was a missionary in Colorado Springs. His parents encouraged him to take on challenges and to not give up. Despite his struggles with learning, Gardner excelled in wrestling. In 1991, he won a national junior college heavyweight championship at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.
Jordan Burroughs
Jordan Burroughs has been one of the best wrestlers to ever come out of the Nebraska program. He has won three national titles, two World Championships, and made five trips to the Olympics. His legacy is still very strong in Nebraska, where he earned a spot in the Hall of Fame in 2021.
Burroughs is tied with John Smith as the only American wrestler to win three or more world titles. In addition to being a four-time world champion and an Olympic gold medalist, Burroughs is also a two-time world bronze medalist.
During his junior and senior seasons, Burroughs compiled an undefeated record. He has the second-best record in Husker history among all time champions.
Elijah Jeudy
Elijah Jeudy was a four-star prospect when he arrived at Texas A&M. The former Northeast (Penn.) High School standout was a solid defensive lineman who participated in track. In fact, he was ranked in the top 10 in his state.
He played in one game, but his contributions helped his team win a close one over Prairie View. He made an impressive tackle and showed he has the range to play on the edge. As a redshirt freshman, he’s already logged a few snaps. Hopefully, he’ll be able to continue his growth in a program that could use some help on that end.
Women’s track and field
The University of Nebraska has been competing in women’s track and field since 1976. The Huskers have had several successful coaches throughout the years. They have also produced a number of academic All-Americans.
The university is the second-largest Division I institution in the country, with a total of 347 Academic All-Americans to their name. One of each varsity sport is included in the Athletic Hall of Fame. In addition, the school is second only to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology when it comes to the number of Academic All-Americans produced.
After a brief stint as head coach of the University of Phoenix men’s track and field team, Jeff Beisel returned to the collegiate ranks as the head coach of the Concordia University, Chicago women’s track and field team. He has compiled an impressive track record, leading the women’s program to seven GPAC titles and a 12th-place national finish.
