Engine
The 180sx started with a 1.8-liter CA18DET engine. This was good for 170 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque.
In 1991 Nissan replaced the engine with a 2.0-liter SR20DET engine. This was a significant improvement over the CA18DET and still had the ‘180SX’ vocabulary, though it produced 202 horsepower.
It also had bigger brakes, a limited-slip differential, and a new front bumper. Other interior parts were redesigned, too.
Many of these cars were imported to the UK by private buyers and dealers and have become participants in drifting events, such as D1 Grand Prix. For example, several 2007 D1 Grand Prix champions drive 180SX cars, including Masato Kawabata and Kazuya Matsukawa.
The North American version of the 180sx is known as 240SX and was also left-hand drive with a 2.4-liter NA engine (KA24E and KA24DE). It has been imported to the US by numerous car dealers or end users. It is eligible for EPA and DOT exemptions under the NHTSA 25-year classic import law.
