The Oceanfront Retreat in Atlantic Beach, Florida
Located on the beach in Atlantic Beach, Florida, the Oceanfront Retreat offers accommodations for retirees and families alike. It features live entertainment, fitness activities, and Jewish services. However, the hotel could use some style updates.
History
During the late 1960s, Atlantic Beach, South Carolina was the only African American resort on the Atlantic Coast. But the town escaped the oceanfront decline that plagued other coastal towns in the 1970s. Today, Atlantic Beach is working to revive its historic landmarks and cultural roots. The town is still trying to raise its profile and attract tourists.
Atlantic Beach’s oldest known structure is the Pagoda House. The building was built by John J. Royal in 1887. The building, which is now a private residence, is an Oriental style beach building. The beach building served as a summer residence for beach managers for many years.
When Atlantic Beach was developed, the town contained several accessory buildings. These included two bathhouses for women. There was also a large ballroom style dance hall. The area contained many small family owned stores.
Rooms are spacious, but could use a style update
Located just down the road from Naval Station Norfolk, the Atlantic Beach Hotel and Suites is a quaint little property. The hotel offers free parking and breakfast, not to mention the requisite perks like free wireless internet. Although the decor tends towards a more traditional Newport style, it’s a nice place to spend the night.
The hotel boasts 43 traditional guest rooms in a quaint little building, plus an additional four cottages directly on the beach. There’s a nice little business center in the lobby and free wireless internet to boot. The rooms are not small, but they’re on the small side compared to some of the bigger hotels around. The pool isn’t too shabby either. There aren’t many amenities on site, but if you’re looking for a cheap and cheerful room, you’ll be hard pressed to find anything better.
Cleaning and disinfection practices
During the swine flu pandemic, the Shores Resort & Spa has embraced new and improved cleaning and disinfection practices. For instance, they’ve installed NanoSeptic self-cleaning button covers on their elevators.
The hotel also has enhanced its social distancing measures. For instance, the hotel has implemented a keyless room lock and uses a “hands free” check-in protocol. In addition, they have removed shared items from their guest rooms. The hotel has also implemented a “Serve Safe” curriculum for employees to learn how to make your stay as safe as possible.
The shores resort & spa has also rolled out the biggest and best bathroom of its kind in Florida. This includes free bottled water and a “Stay Safe” towel rack. In addition, the hotel has implemented a pet policy.
Location on the beach
Located on the beach, Atlantic Beach Hotel and Suites has 43 rooms, three beach cottages, and free breakfast. The hotel is located near Easton’s Beach and Cliff Walk, and offers easy access to the beach. It is also close to the Naval Station and convention centers. The hotel has free parking and is budget friendly. The hotel’s rooms are traditionally decorated, with heavy wooden beds, white bedding, and classic hardwood floors. They are spacious and feature microwaves, mini-fridges, and flat-screen TVs. The bathrooms are moderately sized, and some have separate sitting areas.
Atlantic Beach Hotel and Suites is a nice budget-friendly option for travelers to the Newport area. It is located on the outskirts of the city and offers simple rooms with free breakfast, free parking, and access to the beach.
